Gangbuk-gu Shares 3,300 CCTV Videos with Seoul City, Fire Department, and Police

Seoul’s Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is building the ‘Gangbuk-gu Integrated Platform’ to jointly utilize approximately 3,300 CCTV video data with related agencies such as Seoul City, fire stations, and police stations.

The ‘Gangbuk-gu Integrated Platform’ is a system that shares CCTV video data operated by the district for purposes such as crime prevention and investigation, facility safety and fire prevention, and traffic enforcement with related agencies including Seoul City, police stations, and fire stations. It was prepared to enhance urban safety systems and strengthen resident safety by enabling rapid response to emergencies, following the Itaewon tragedy.

The district plans to complete the ‘Gangbuk-gu Integrated Platform’ construction project by the end of this month, investing a total of 300 million KRW, including 150 million KRW from city funds and 150 million KRW from the Gangbuk-gu disaster management fund.

Once the system is established, in the event of emergencies such as disasters or crimes, related agencies can use the integrated platform to access the district’s CCTV video data without separate requests for on-site situation assessment, dissemination, and damage recovery.

During various reports, the police can quickly assess situations using CCTV near the reporter and receive information such as the suspect’s escape routes, while the fire department will be supported with fire scene footage and traffic information.

Additionally, the district plans to utilize the Gangbuk-gu Integrated Platform to support socially vulnerable groups, one of the five national safety services of the Smart City Integrated Platform.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “Through this integrated platform construction project, we have been able to establish an intelligent video surveillance system capable of proactive response,” adding, “We will continue to build various urban safety network systems to secure the golden time in case of emergencies.”
