The film '1947 Boston,' which brings to the screen the true story of marathon runners Son Ki-jung and Seo Yun-bok, will be released on September 27, Lotte Entertainment announced on the 14th.
'1947 Boston' is a movie depicting the challenge and journey of marathon runners competing in an international competition for the first time after liberation in 1947, wearing the Taegeuk mark. The film is directed by Kang Je-gyu, who also directed 'Taegukgi' (2004), 'My Way' (2011), and 'The Himalayas' (2015).
Actor Ha Jung-woo plays Son Ki-jung, the gold medalist at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, while Im Si-wan portrays Seo Yun-bok, the national representative at the 1947 Boston Marathon.
During the Japanese colonial period, Son Ki-jung won the gold medal with a world record time of 2 hours 29 minutes 19 seconds but bowed his head hiding the Japanese flag with a flowerpot. In contrast, Seo Yun-bok runs with the Taegeuk mark on his chest for the first time after liberation, drawing intense attention from the global press and spectators.
