Jang Chung-nam, Namhae County Governor, Visits Families of Independence Patriots on Liberation Day Commemoration

Jang Chung-nam, the governor of Namhae County, Gyeongnam, visited two families of independence patriots' descendants on the occasion of the 78th Liberation Day, delivering consolation gifts and expressing respect and gratitude.


On the 11th, Governor Jang visited Hagi-su (85 years old, Yurim 2), the grandson of the late Ha Jun-ho (born 1887), an independence patriot who led the April 1919 independence movement in the Namhae-eup area, was imprisoned for two years, and posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal in 1990.

He also visited Im Yeon-ok (98 years old, Idong-myeon), the spouse of the late Choi Yong-deok (born 1920, Order of Merit for National Foundation), an independence patriot who enlisted and was active in the 1st Unit of the Liberation Army and whose participation in the Liberation Army camp in June 1944 was reported in Chinese newspapers, having an international impact.


In Namhae County, a total of five descendants of independence patriots, including those of Ha Jun-ho and Choi Yong-deok, are registered.


Governor Jang said, “I express my deep gratitude and respect to the independence patriots who devoted themselves to the nation's independence,” adding, “We will do our best to repay the sacrifice and spirit of the independence patriots and their descendants who worked hard for liberation with the highest honors.”


Meanwhile, Namhae County provides a monthly honorary pension of 150,000 KRW to the descendants of independence patriots.
