YouTuber Who Filed Complaint Against Shillim-dong Weapon Assaulter: "Faced Joseon Due to Prosecutor's Mistake"

"Will Pause Activities Due to Shock from Incident"
Chosun Prosecuted for Defamation over 'Looks Gay' Malicious Comment

A game YouTuber who filed a defamation lawsuit against Chosun (33), who was indicted on the 11th for the 'Shillim-dong weapon rampage incident,' announced a temporary suspension of activities. This decision was due to aftereffects caused by directly encountering Chosun because of a prosecutorial error.

On the 11th, game YouTuber A shared his feelings in a lengthy comment along with a video titled "The perpetrator of the Shillim-dong stabbing incident was my malicious commenter." In the video, he said he recently received a notice from the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office that the complainant needed to be interviewed again regarding the defamation lawsuit filed on DC Inside. A had already filed a defamation lawsuit against malicious commenters on DC Inside last year and completed the investigation.

When he was puzzled by the additional investigation, the prosecutor brought up the 'Shillim-dong stabbing' case. He informed A that the stabbing perpetrator (Chosun) was one of the malicious commenters. Shocked, A immediately went to the prosecutor's office. However, the first person he encountered in the prosecutor's office was not the prosecutor but Chosun.

A said, "(Chosun) was handcuffed and wearing a prison uniform, and he looked in my direction where I made a sound. He stared at me from less than one meter away, and his gaze was very frightening." He added, "The investigator in front of the perpetrator muttered to himself, 'Was there some kind of mistake?' and took me to the place where I was originally supposed to be investigated."

A confessed that he suffered from severe anxiety and fear after encountering Chosun. He said, "A person who acted like a demon to an unspecified number of people was within my radius, and he even harbored ill feelings toward me, so I thought, 'Could he harm me later?' or 'Might he suddenly rush out now?' and many other thoughts crossed my mind."

In a comment, A stated, "Due to the prosecutor's mistake, meeting the perpetrator (Chosun) became a trigger in my mind, causing me to suffer from insomnia. I keep seeing the perpetrator's face." He added, "I have concluded that it is difficult to continue YouTube activities as before."

Chosun was arrested after stabbing and killing a 22-year-old man with a weapon at the entrance of a shopping alley about 80 meters from Exit 4 of Shillim Station on the afternoon of the 21st of last month. He then wielded a weapon repeatedly against three men in their 30s inside the alley. In December last year, he was also indicted for defamation for posting a message on an internet community board implying that A was 'gay.'

The prosecution believes that Chosun's game addiction and the summons for the defamation charge influenced the crime. On the morning of the crime, he watched first-person shooter game videos, and they judged that there were similarities between his unusual movements during the crime and those of the game character. Investigations also revealed that when he was summoned by the police for defamation charges four days before the crime, his feelings of inferiority and frustration turned into hostility and anger, leading him to plan and carry out a public murder of a young man. Chosun reportedly stated that "(when he saw the victim) he recalled the man who sued him."
