Swift response utilizing all community resources, offering memorable experiences through diverse programs... Especially, upon learning that some participants were vegetarians, alternative meals were prepared for them, and for participants with gluten sensitivity, staff personally grilled meat at the restaurant and delivered it, drawing attention... On the 12th at 9 a.m., participants checked out from the accommodation and proceeded with their individual schedules, with some scheduled to return on the 13th.
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the official schedule prepared for the jamboree participants visiting the district was successfully completed.
Radomir, the Czech jamboree representative, said, “From the first day, the district and the Korea Military Academy welcomed us warmly. All the participants smiled and enjoyed themselves during their stay in Nowon-gu. The accommodations, meals, and programs were all well prepared.” He added, “Especially impressive were the Bulamsan Deureoboseup, skating, and Kim Deok-su’s Samulnori performances prepared by Nowon-gu.”
Oriana, a participant leaving the accommodation to tour Namsan, shared, “It was hot in Korea, but I had a great time. People in Nowon-gu were very kind, and the food was especially delicious. The experience of dyeing balsam flowers at Bulamsan Butterfly Garden left a strong impression.”
This was the result of the district’s prompt response by fully utilizing existing resources and cooperating with the local community.
On the 9th, a day before about 400 participants were assigned to Nowon-gu, Mayor Oh Seung-rok held an emergency countermeasure meeting to meticulously prepare detailed matters such as programs, meals, interpretation, and transportation.
Staff for administrative support and interpreters were urgently selected and deployed, and programs likely to interest the participants were organized. Upon receiving prior information that some participants were vegetarians, alternative meals were prepared for them, and for participants with gluten hypersensitivity, staff personally grilled meat at the restaurant and delivered it.
Requests for assistance were made to the local community. Seoul Gwangyeom Church (Pastor Jo Hyun-sam) took charge of the participants’ breakfast, providing Western-style breakfast with about 30 volunteers. The National and Public Daycare Center Association (President Han Jeong-hee) supported beverages for participants returning late to the accommodation after the K-POP concert.
The Korea Military Academy (Principal Kwon Young-ho) and other youth facilities in the area also opened their venues and actively supported the programs.
By mobilizing various tourist resources of the district and cooperating with the local community, a well-structured variety of programs was organized.
On the first day, participants experienced herbal foot baths, forest walks, extreme sports, and pottery wheel workshops in groups at four locations: Bulamsan Healing Town, Forest Healing Center, Bulamsan Deureoboseup, and Choansan Pottery Experience Center. In the evening, the district’s representative attraction, Hwarangdae Railroad Park, offered various sights such as the Light Garden and miniature train exhibition hall. Before bedtime, the mayor made a surprise visit and gifted K-chicken, allowing participants to experience Korean late-night snack culture. The participants expressed satisfaction with the programs, meals, and chicken prepared by the district, cheering and giving a standing ovation to the mayor.
On the second day, due to the approach of Typhoon Khanun, indoor programs were arranged. At local science and cultural facilities such as Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center and the Municipal Science Museum, as well as youth facilities, participants engaged in large tornado simulations, K-POP dance lessons, digital drawing, and exhibition viewing.
During the skating experience in the afternoon, participants repeatedly expressed joy, saying, “Skating in summer is a unique experience.” The joint performance of Kim Deok-su’s Samulnori and B-boy was also popular among the participants. At the end, performers and participants mingled on stage, swaying their shoulders together.
On the morning of the third day, the district and the Korea Military Academy jointly prepared events. Participants enjoyed cheerleading, taekwondo and jump rope demonstration teams’ performances prepared by the district, as well as military band performances, traditional archery, horseback riding experiences, and museum and memorial hall tours arranged by the Korea Military Academy. In the afternoon, they completed the official schedule with a closing ceremony and K-pop concert.
Most participants left Nowon-gu at 9 a.m. on the 12th to proceed with their individual schedules. The district concluded the official schedule by providing souvenirs and seeing off the departing participants. Some participants decided to stay an extra day to experience local culture and activities, and the district plans to continue providing meals on a humanitarian basis until their departure.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The district and the local community successfully hosted this national event. I thank all related organizations and residents for their cooperation, and especially appreciate the hard work of the staff who worked tirelessly day and night.” He added, “I hope all jamboree participants who visited Nowon-gu will remember their time here as a happy memory.”
