Couples Riding Near Samseong Station
"Claimed It Was for Magazine Promotion"
Excessive Exposure Charges Under Review
Eight men and women who rode motorcycles around downtown Seoul wearing bikinis in broad daylight were booked by the police. The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 11th that they had arrested and were investigating eight motorcycle riders and passengers on charges of excessive exposure. There were four women and four men.
The four women wearing bikinis and the four male riders are suspected of riding motorcycles around the Samseong-dong area in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 12:40 PM on the 11th. Each man drove a motorcycle with a woman riding behind him, moving in four pairs. The police caught and investigated them near Samseong Station. According to the investigation, they reportedly stated that "they rode the motorcycles for magazine promotion purposes." The police are considering applying charges of excessive exposure under the Minor Offenses Act against them.
The charge of excessive exposure applies when a person publicly exposes major parts of their body in a public place, causing others to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. It is punishable by a fine of up to 100,000 won, detention, or a penalty. Previously, in August last year, a bike YouTuber in the Gangnam area was sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of excessive exposure after riding a motorcycle with a woman in a bikini on the back seat at high speed.
