Among 38 Arrested for 'Murder Threats,' 18 Are Teenagers
A man in his 20s was arrested for threatening to carry out a stabbing rampage targeting the agency of a girl group member because she did not reciprocate his fandom.
The Hanam Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that they had arrested a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of intimidation and obstruction of official duties by deception.
A is accused of posting a message on the online community 'DC Inside' bulletin board at 1:15 p.m. on the 8th, stating, "I will kill nine employees of ○○ Entertainment near Seoul Forest Station."
Investigations revealed that A had repeatedly expressed his fandom to a member of the girl group under this company, but when his feelings were not reciprocated, he lost his temper and committed the crime.
The police urgently arrested A at his residence on the day of the incident and found detailed plans related to the crime on his mobile phone. Considering the high risk of A committing a crime, the police applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted by the court.
The Cyber Investigation Division of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency reported that since the stabbing rampage incident in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 3rd, they have apprehended a total of 38 individuals who posted murder threats, and among them, four with serious charges have been arrested.
Of the 38 apprehended, 18 were teenagers, 8 were in their 20s, and 8 were in their 30s, with those aged 30 and under accounting for 89.6% of the total.
By gender, 32 were male (88.9%), overwhelmingly more than the 6 females.
The majority cited motives such as "wanting to have fun or gain attention" (26 people, 68.3%) or "acting out of anger" (7 people, 18.4%).
The police explained that although teenagers were the largest age group among those initially apprehended, the number has significantly decreased recently due to intervention and eradication measures by educational authorities.
Lee Young-pil, head of the Cyber Investigation Planning Division at the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, said, "Both A and B were immediately tracked down and arrested on the day they posted their messages," adding, "If you post murder threats, you will definitely be caught by the police. Please do not post such messages under any circumstances."
