Ministry of Justice "Committed to Preparing Support Measures"
On the 11th, Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, instructed to "mobilize all possible means to provide support" for the woman in her 20s who fell into a brain-dead state due to the 'Bundang stabbing rampage incident.' The Ministry of Justice stated in a press release that day, "The Minister directed frontline prosecutors' offices and crime victim support centers to utilize measures such as the 'special resolution of the economic support council.'
Victims and their families who have suffered death or serious injury due to crime can receive up to 50 million KRW (15 million KRW annually) in medical expense support over five years through prosecutors' offices and private crime victim support centers. If additional support is needed, it must go through a 'special resolution of the economic support council.' The Ministry of Justice said, "We will continue to do our best to prepare necessary support measures to assist victims of violent crimes."
Meanwhile, the 'Bundang stabbing rampage incident' occurred on the 3rd when suspect Choi Won-jong wildly wielded a weapon at citizens around AK Plaza in Seohyeon-dong, Bundang, Seongnam, injuring nine people. Just before the rampage, he drove his mother's Morning passenger car onto the sidewalk, hitting five pedestrians, resulting in one death and four injuries. It was revealed through the SNS of Lee Gi-in, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly from the People Power Party, that the hospitalization cost for one of the injured, a woman in her 20s who fell into a brain-dead state, has already reached 13 million KRW.
