Hyundai Green Food Launches Specialized Diet for Kidney Disease... "Strengthening Medifood Business"

On the 13th, Hyundai Green Food announced the launch of a new subscription meal plan called ‘Kidney Disease Diet’ under its care food specialized brand ‘Greeting.’ Last year, Hyundai Green Food officially expanded its medical food business by consecutively introducing diabetic and cancer patient diets.

As part of strengthening its care food business this year, Hyundai Green Food newly established the ‘Disease-Specific Diet’ category under Greeting, combining diabetic, cancer patient, and kidney disease diets, and expanded the number of meal plans from 36 at launch to 117, more than tripling the variety.

The ‘Greeting Kidney Disease Diet’ is a care food meal plan developed for end-stage kidney disease patients who regularly undergo hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. This diet consists of a total of 12 refrigerated and frozen meal options, including menus using low-phosphorus white rice such as stir-fried rice and pot rice, along with more than four types of side dishes to enjoy with rice.

The Greeting Kidney Disease Diet is a specially formulated medical food developed according to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s standard for ‘Dietary Foods for Kidney Disease Patients.’ These foods aim to assist in dietary management to prevent excessive accumulation of waste and fluids in dialysis patients. The diet must meet conditions such as providing at least 12% of calories from protein and containing no more than 650mg of sodium. Greeting Kidney Disease Diet is designed with an average of over 15% of calories from protein by actively using highly nutritious animal-based ingredients.

A Hyundai Green Food official said, “Kidney disease patients need to consume sufficient calories while controlling intake of sodium, potassium (K), and phosphorus (P), making it very challenging to consider nutritional components in daily meals. Greeting offers a variety of menus with professional nutritional design and optimal cooking methods to make dietary management easier.”

The Greeting Kidney Disease Diet includes stews and jjajang (black bean sauce) dishes, which are usually difficult for kidney disease patients to eat, by adjusting saltiness with sauces such as goji berry soy sauce, barley chili paste, and oyster sauce developed directly by Greeting Lab researchers. Additionally, spinach and potatoes are cooked for optimal times to reduce potassium content, allowing kidney disease patients to consume a variety of ingredients.

Hyundai Green Food plans to release a specialized diet for kidney disease patients who are not undergoing dialysis within this year, in addition to the kidney disease diet for dialysis patients.

Park Ju-yeon, Executive Director in charge of Greeting Business at Hyundai Green Food, said, “In the future, we plan to introduce various healthy meal plans not only for patients with chronic diseases but also for consumers who want to manage their health through diet for disease prevention. We aim to establish ourselves as a ‘company that provides healthy food that positively influences eating habits.’”
