Gallup "President Yoon's Approval Rating 35% · People Power Party 36%... Both Rising"

President Yoon Suk-yeol and the People Power Party's approval ratings have risen.

According to Gallup's regular survey conducted from the 8th to the 10th (a telephone interviewer survey of 1,001 adults aged 18 and over nationwide), the approval rating for President Yoon's job performance increased by 2 percentage points from the previous week's survey to 35%. However, the disapproval rating also rose by 1 percentage point to 57%.

Among respondents who positively evaluated the president's job performance (348 people, open-ended responses), reasons cited included "diplomacy" (22%) and "decisiveness/drive/tenacity" (8%). Conversely, those who gave a negative evaluation (571 people, open-ended responses) cited reasons such as "economy/livelihood/prices," "generally doing poorly" (both 10%), and "lack of experience/competence/incompetence" (9%).

Gallup stated, "The president's job approval rating has remained in the low to mid-30% range over the past month, while the disapproval rating has stayed in the mid to high 50% range." They added, "Among reasons for positive evaluations, 'diplomacy' has consistently been the top mention, while reasons for negative evaluations have alternated between issues such as the 'Fukushima contaminated water discharge problem,' 'diplomacy,' '(heavy rain) disaster response,' and this week's 'Jamboree incident.'"

On the occasion of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's 1 year and 3 months anniversary, evaluations of economic, welfare, education, North Korea, diplomatic policies, and public official appointments showed that support for North Korea policy was the highest at 40%. This was followed by welfare (37%), diplomacy (36%), economy (27%), education (23%), and appointments (19%). Compared to the April survey, support for North Korea policy rose by 5 percentage points, welfare policy by 4 points, diplomatic policy by 9 points, and economic policy by 2 points, while education policy and public official appointments remained at similar levels as the previous survey.

In party support, the People Power Party's approval rating rose by 4 percentage points to 36%. The Democratic Party fell by 1 percentage point to 30%. The proportion of respondents identifying as independents was 28%.

Regarding the introduction of "life imprisonment without parole" for heinous criminals, 87% were in favor, while 9% opposed.
