"Having received great fortune, serve with even greater humility"
A lottery jackpot winner has attracted attention by announcing plans to donate part of the prize money to disaster victims in his hometown, Uljin, Gyeongbuk.
On the 10th, an interview with Mr. A, who won first prize in the 73rd round of Spitto 1000 and received 500 million won, was posted on the Donghaeng Lottery website.
Mr. A, who won by purchasing a lotto ticket at a lottery store in Jung-gu, Daegu, said he has been buying lotto, pension lottery, and Spitto tickets once a week. He stated, "I bought tickets hoping to win second or third prize rather than the jackpot, and even if I lost, I kept buying thinking the money would be used for good causes."
Mr. A explained the situation at the time: "I had been feeling unwell recently and was considering going to a large hospital, but as I recovered, I was in a good mood. I visited a convenience store in front of my office and bought five Spitto tickets, then scratched them at the office. The last ticket was the first prize, which made me feel even better."
Mr. A plans to donate part of the winnings to disaster victims in Uljin, Gyeongbuk. He said, "I was heartbroken to hear that many disaster victims lost their homes due to wildfires and floods in my hometown, Uljin, Gyeongbuk, so I am relieved to be able to help with part of the first prize money."
He added, "Having received such great fortune in my life, I will serve with even more humility."
Netizens responded with comments such as, "That's admirable; I don't think I could ever donate," and "Congratulations on your recovery and you are truly someone to emulate."
