Distribution of Statement Ahead of Appearance at Military Prosecution Unit
Former Marine Corps Investigation Unit Commander Park Jeong-hoon, who was booked on charges of 'leading a collective defiance' related to the investigation of the late Corporal Chae Soo-geun, has refused to cooperate with the Ministry of National Defense prosecution team’s investigation.
On the morning of the 11th, when he was scheduled to appear before the military prosecution team, former Commander Park issued a statement saying, "The Ministry of National Defense prosecution team illegally retrieved case documents that had been lawfully transferred to the police, exerted undue pressure on the investigation, and issued improper orders as a subordinate organization of the Ministry of National Defense, making a fair investigation impossible," and declared, "I clearly refuse the investigation by the Ministry of National Defense prosecution team."
He added, “At the early stage of the incident, President Yoon Seok-yeol instructed a strict and thorough investigation to prevent such incidents from recurring, and I did my best in the investigation within my capacity.”
He continued, “For unknown reasons, I received multiple instances of investigative pressure and improper orders from the Ministry of National Defense legal officer,” and said, “I recommended to the Marine Corps Commander to handle the matter lawfully, but the Ministry of National Defense prosecution team illegally retrieved case documents that had been lawfully transferred to the police.”
