Gwangjin-gu and Sejong University Reselected for the ‘Seoul Campus Town Project’ Following 2019
Secured Up to 4.5 Billion KRW in City Budget... Implementing Specialized Projects to Foster Youth Startups Over Three Years
Aiming to Create Future Innovative Companies in AI, Foodtech, and Revitalize the Local Economy
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) and Sejong University (President Bae Deok-hyo) have been selected for the ‘2024 Seoul Campus Town Project,’ gaining momentum in fostering youth startups.
The ‘Campus Town’ project connects human and material resources of local communities and universities to discover and nurture youth startup companies. Gwangjin-gu and Sejong University have achieved the distinction of being reselected following their initial selection in 2019.
As a result, they will receive up to 4.5 billion KRW in project funding over a maximum of three years. With the support of Seoul City’s budget, the project accelerates one of the promises of the 8th elected administration: ‘Supporting youth startup growth linked to university campus towns.’
The project’s goal is to develop the area around Sejong University into a hub for youth startups. Efforts will focus on discovering and fostering convergent startup companies with competitiveness in software (SW), artificial intelligence (AI), foodtech, and other sectors recognized as future growth engines.
Additionally, various initiatives will be pursued to establish a representative startup cluster in the northeastern area, including ▲expanding internal and external startup support spaces ▲operating education programs tailored to different startup stages ▲hosting startup job fairs ▲startup competitions ▲linking startup companies with recruitment opportunities.
Through these efforts, the project aims to invigorate youth entrepreneurship and job creation, ultimately breathing new life into the local economy.
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, “Being selected again for this project is very encouraging as it allows us to lead youth startups together with Sejong University,” adding, “We will do our best to create synergy effects for revitalizing the local economy by actively cooperating with the university’s excellent resources.”
