Strengthening Emergency Duty Response System for Typhoon Preparedness…Patrolling Vulnerable Areas, Communicating Typhoon Situations to Residents
Inspection of Large Construction Sites and Landslide-Prone Areas, Control of Rivers and Hiking Trails
Kim Mi-kyung, District Mayor, “We will maintain a 24-hour emergency system to protect residents' lives and property”
Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is making an all-out effort to prevent typhoon damage as Typhoon No. 6 ‘Khanun’ approaches northward.
On the 9th, Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, held the ‘2nd Countermeasure Meeting for Typhoon No. 6’ and instructed all departments and community service centers to maintain an emergency duty system to prevent any typhoon damage.
As of 9 a.m. on the 10th, a typhoon advisory was issued throughout Seoul, with strong winds and up to 150mm of rainfall forecasted from the night of the 10th through the 11th.
That afternoon, Mayor Kim Mi-kyung visited Suguksa Temple to inspect slope soil erosion and drainage overflow caused by heavy rain. The previous day, she also checked safety conditions at large construction sites vulnerable to strong winds, areas with hazardous trees, and exposed mountain slopes.
Following the issuance of the typhoon advisory, Eunpyeong-gu proactively strengthened its emergency duty response system to Level 1. While conducting on-site inspections of vulnerable areas, preemptive measures for hazardous facilities were completed.
Major facilities at 15 large construction sites vulnerable to typhoons and 11 landslide-prone areas, including fences, stone walls, retaining walls, steep slopes, and outdoor advertising structures, were inspected and maintained in advance. Focus was placed on the placement of pumps, condition of sumps, prevention of tower crane overturning, protective screens, and drainage channels. An emergency action plan was also established to quickly deploy personnel and equipment in case of typhoon damage.
From 10 p.m. on the 9th, the district restricted access to rivers such as Bulgwangcheon and Gupabalcheon, and from 7 a.m. on the 10th, hiking trail access was also controlled. Control information is being provided through disaster early warning text message electronic signboards installed on river bridges, along with voice broadcasts.
Typhoon weather information, control status, and action guidelines were communicated to residents via disaster text messages and notification talks. A flood-vulnerable care service is being operated for 141 semi-basement households with a history of flooding and 21 disaster-vulnerable households including persons with disabilities and the elderly. Weather situation updates and preemptive preparation guidelines were provided, and rapid evacuation support is offered in case of flooding incidents.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung of Eunpyeong-gu said, “To protect residents' lives and property, we will maintain a 24-hour emergency system and carry out thorough preparation and swift response,” adding, “We ask all residents to closely monitor weather conditions and be sure to familiarize themselves with typhoon preparedness action guidelines.”
