Founded iClave after running Yahoo's top 1-2 shopping malls
Automating advertising and marketing tasks for enterprises and small businesses
Launching generative AI integrated service this month
When companies or small business owners enter the e-commerce market, there is a more challenging question than deciding what products to sell: how to sell them. Unless it is a product like the recently globally hyped "room-temperature superconductor," the market is flooded with identical items. Therefore, sales performance often depends on promotional and marketing capabilities. However, it is not easy for businesses newly entering the e-commerce market to devise sales strategies that keep up with rapidly changing consumer demands and trends.
Eclave, an e-commerce artificial intelligence (AI) solution startup, was established in 2015 to address these "pain points." Its core service is "RoboMD." RoboMD provides AI services necessary for e-commerce operations, such as automatic product display within shopping malls and customized banner placement. Choi Yunnae, CEO of Eclave, said, "What small and medium-sized enterprises, shopping malls, and platforms worry about the most is content creation and operations for sales," adding, "E-commerce growth does not come from a single hit product but from continuous content creation, exposing products that customers want, and ongoing channel and own-mall management."
Choi, who graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University, chose the path of an entrepreneur rather than an artist. During university, she started a chat service venture and later worked as a design team leader at a web agency. In 2003, she also operated an online shopping mall that competed for the top spots in Yahoo Korea's shopping rankings. Choi said, "I witnessed many times that the difficulties I experienced running an online shopping mall had not been resolved," and added, "To solve these problems with AI technology, I acquired certifications in big data, Java, and mobile development and founded Eclave."
Small business owners with few employees often lack the capacity to create product images or advertising banners for their own or partner malls. Outsourcing incurs costs and takes a long time, making immediate responses to consumer preferences difficult. The challenge grows with the number of products. Choi said, "RoboMD performs simple, repetitive e-commerce tasks such as producing and uploading hundreds of designs 24/7," adding, "Through this, we have seen a 90% reduction in these tasks for clients and an average sales increase of 30%."
RoboMD incorporates 3 million data points accumulated over seven years and 17 patented technologies from Eclave. Using deep learning technology trained on user information and sales data, it can recommend products tailored to customers. This means that the products shown to first-time visitors and regular users on a website differ. Even among regular customers, the images displayed vary according to their consumption patterns. This technology reduces resource consumption in shopping mall operation management.
The fashion industry is the sector that prefers Eclave's services the most. Since fashion shopping malls release new products weekly, the intensity of repetitive tasks related to design and product display is high. Choi said, "Dutch luxury brand Oilily uses our service, and even non-professional fashion designers can operate the online shopping mall without issues," adding, "We have heard from clients that they achieved a shopping mall renewal effect and increased sales without separately commissioning web design."
Besides fashion, word of mouth is spreading in industries such as electronics, home furnishing, beauty, and food. KT, Cheongnyeon Dabang, and BlogPay are among Eclave's clients. Market B, a home furnishing platform with 10 million members, reportedly improved its staff's work efficiency by 90% through RoboMD.
CEO Choi plans to launch a graphic tool service called "AI Design" this month, combining generative AI-based image creation and design editing functions. Even without professional product-related images, users can input simple ideas in text form to create and edit a complete design that combines high-quality images and promotional phrases. In the second half of the year, Eclave plans to enter the European and U.S. markets. It has already established a partnership with a German marketing agency that connects overseas shopping malls. Choi stated, "Our ultimate goal is to break down barriers to online sales with our technology," and added, "We will grow into a leading Korean company in the global market for new automated operation solutions for online sales."
