Muan-gun Launches Full-Scale Response System as Typhoon 'Khanun' Approaches North

Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) held a preemptive countermeasure meeting against Typhoon Khanun, presided over by Deputy Governor Kim Seong-hoon, on the afternoon of the 8th at the Disaster Safety Comprehensive Situation Room.

According to the county on the 9th, the meeting was held proactively in response to concerns that the path of Typhoon Khanun, which caused significant damage in Japan, might affect Muan.

The main inspection items included △measures to prevent flooding in underpasses and traditional markets △landslide prevention △preemptive access control focusing on high-risk areas such as habitual flood zones △resident evacuation plans △facility protection plans, among others.

Since collapse accidents involving landslide-prone areas adjacent to residential areas, steep slopes, agricultural reservoirs, and retaining walls are directly linked to casualties, the policy is to thoroughly prepare in advance by identifying risk factors early and strengthening safety measures.

Also, immediately upon the issuance of typhoon warnings, areas such as floodplain parking lots and riverside walking trails will be preemptively controlled, and dedicated personnel will be assigned in advance to underpasses at risk of flooding.

The county is closely monitoring the typhoon’s path and weather conditions, conducting emergency duty and activating the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters according to weather alerts, and is also focusing on inspecting key measures such as emergency communication system checks, facility managers’ presence at designated posts, and prompt situation reporting in case of disasters.

Deputy Governor Kim Seong-hoon stated, “We will strengthen the collaborative system with police, fire departments, and others, concentrate all administrative power including department heads’ presence at designated posts, and enhance regular patrols in areas at risk of casualties to ensure that no human damage occurs due to this typhoon.”
