SonyD is showing strength. As defense industry exchanges between Korea and Poland accelerate, it is interpreted as a beneficiary stock due to offset business.
As of 11:14 AM on the 9th, SonyD is trading at 4,075 KRW, up 3.56% from the previous day.
According to an interview with a media outlet on the same day, the Polish state-owned research institute Ukaszewicz's Industrial Automation Research Institute PIAP (hereinafter Ukaszewicz PIAP) announced that it will strengthen cooperation with SonyD.
Ukaszewicz PIAP's robots began delivery to the Korean National Police Agency this month through SonyD's subsidiary Defense Korea. Additionally, on the 18th, they plan to provide a robot demonstration to the Ministry of Environment.
The Polish government and Korean defense companies are known to be preparing a second contract following last year's weapons export contract worth 12.1 billion euros (approximately 17 trillion KRW). The additional weapons Poland promised to procure include about 820 K2 tanks, 460 K9 self-propelled howitzers, and 70 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems, totaling approximately 21.3 billion euros (30 trillion KRW).
Piotr Szynkarczyk, General Director of Ukaszewicz PIAP, also focused on offset business. Through this system, Korea must perform alternative transactions worth more than half of the purchase scale in forms such as purchasing Polish equipment and technology transfer.
Director Szynkarczyk stated, “We are exploring ways to cooperate with Korean government agencies, large corporations, and public enterprises, such as our Korean partner Defense Korea. There is high demand for explosive ordnance disposal robots in Korea, and our robots fully meet the specifications of the Korean National Police Agency and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration through cooperation with Defense Korea, so we believe we are the most suitable for offset business selection.”
Meanwhile, SonyD's subsidiary Defense Korea is known to have signed an exclusive distribution contract with Ukaszewicz PIAP in Korea. Accordingly, Defense Korea has secured comprehensive rights for exclusive distribution, maintenance, joint development, and technology transfer of all robots developed and manufactured by Ukaszewicz PIAP within Korea.
Additionally, through this contract, Defense Korea has obtained the authority to conduct negotiations, contract execution, and maintenance services related to offset business between Korea and Poland within Korea.
Previously, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) signed four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with the Polish research institution Ukaszewicz Research Network and universities of both countries to expand personnel exchanges in advanced industrial fields between Korea and Poland.
