A Thief Who Visited Geumcheon-gu Police Box in Seoul Mid-Last Month
Police Remembered Suspect's Appearance
A man who voluntarily visited a police station to consult about filing a complaint was revealed to be a suspect in a theft case and was arrested on the spot.
Recently, a video titled "The culprit who came on their own, did you think we wouldn't know?" was uploaded on the National Police Agency's YouTube channel. According to the released video, in mid-last month, a man identified as Mr. A visited a police box in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul to receive consultation on the complaint procedure. He passionately explained his story to the police officers while writing it down on paper.

During this, the police officers noticed that Mr. A resembled the suspect in a theft case that had occurred the previous day. The officers then checked the suspect’s description photos and the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene. A police officer who had been dispatched to the scene also confirmed Mr. A’s appearance and became certain that Mr. A was the same person as the theft suspect.
However, despite continued questioning by the police, Mr. A denied the crime. The officers presented the CCTV footage and other evidence, and Mr. A eventually confessed.

It was previously understood that Mr. A had stolen a wallet from the adjacent seat at a pub the day before. He quickly took the wallet, put it into his own bag, put on a hat, and left the pub. The police ultimately arrested Mr. A on theft charges.
Meanwhile, this is not the first case of someone voluntarily visiting a police station and being booked. In June, a man identified as Mr. B, who had been driving under the influence, stopped by a police station to report the loss of his cellphone and wallet but was booked. At that time, Mr. B staggered into the police station after repeatedly moving forward and backward to park.
Judging Mr. B’s behavior to be suspicious, a police officer contacted the relevant department and arrested Mr. B on the spot. Mr. B’s blood alcohol concentration was investigated to be 0.113%, which is above the license cancellation threshold.
