Busan Sasang-gu and Saha-gu Selected as Target Areas for 15-Minute City Happy Challenge

Busan City has selected two zones, Saha-gu Sinpyeong·Jangnim living area and Sasang-gu Gwaebeop·Gamjeon living area, as the representative living areas for the 2nd Happy Challenge of the 15-minute city, and two zones, Dong-gu Jwacheon·Beomil living area and Buk-gu Mandeok living area, as pilot project sites.

The Happy Challenge is a project aimed at creating a model of the 15-minute city, with an investment of 30 billion KRW each for the representative living areas over 3 to 5 years, and 2.5 billion KRW each for the pilot project sites.

The project is divided into ▲ infrastructure construction and improvement projects to create citizen communication and exchange spaces such as Deullaknallak, Haha Center, and linear parks ▲ and community revitalization projects centered on neighborhood residential (commercial) areas.

The Sinpyeong·Jangnim living area and Gwaebeop·Gamjeon living area, selected as the 2nd Happy Challenge representative living areas, were highly evaluated in the review for their potential to restore community through balanced east-west development and securing various communication and exchange spaces.

The city plans to complete strategic plans for the four living areas within this year and prepare the 2024 main budget to sequentially promote related projects. Among the projects specified for each living area, tasks with relatively simple procedures will begin immediately in January next year.

Tasks requiring prior procedures such as consultations with related institutions like the Police Agency and Education Office, and social agreements with local residents will be promoted sequentially after completing the related procedures.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, said, “Saha-gu and Sasang-gu, selected as the representative living areas for the 2nd Happy Challenge, will become key points to advance the entire western Busan area into a happy 15-minute city for citizens.”

He added, “We will accelerate the creation of the 15-minute city by spreading strategic tasks such as Deullaknallak, Haha Center, and living sports facilities throughout the city.”

Earlier, in August last year, Busan City selected Dangam·Gaegum living area in Busanjin-gu as the representative living area for the 1st Happy Challenge, and Sinseon·Namhang living area in Yeongdo-gu and Mangmi·Suyeong living area in Suyeong-gu as pilot project sites.
