Evacuation of Residents in Hazardous Areas and Preemptive Control of Flood Risk Zones
Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun' is expected to make landfall on the southern coast and pass through the Korean Peninsula, prompting Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province to make thorough preparations for preventive measures.
On the morning of the 8th, Namhae-gun held a 'Preemptive Countermeasure Meeting for Typhoon No. 6 Khanun's Northward Approach' attended by all department heads and town and township chiefs to review key management items.
Namhae-gun has recently launched an urgent full-scale survey focusing on areas vulnerable to damage during the rainy season. Each working department is continuing inspections of 93 landslide-prone areas, as well as low-lying facilities, riverbanks, and reservoir embankments. Through comprehensive inspections, they plan to identify risk factors and promptly implement safety measures.
In addition, to efficiently manage vulnerable areas and facilities and to swiftly control emergency situations, a cooperative system has been established with local police, fire departments, and the military, and active collaboration with village autonomous disaster prevention groups and related organizations is planned.
Efforts are also being made to thoroughly promote public action guidelines, such as urging people to refrain from going out when weather warnings are issued. Namhae-gun strongly requests prohibition of waterway excavation and riverside walking, and has arranged to quickly disseminate emergency situations through disaster text messages and cooperation with village heads and autonomous disaster prevention groups.
At the same time, continuous surveillance is being strengthened for areas at risk of human casualties, major tourist spots (beaches), and flood-prone areas, and rapid preemptive control will be implemented upon detection of danger signs.
Furthermore, past damage areas are being intensively inspected, and immediate pre-evacuation will be carried out without delay upon discovery of risk factors.
Inspections and management of fisheries facilities are also being reinforced in preparation for strong winds, high waves, tsunamis, and coastal flooding. Safety measures such as controlling the entry and exit of ships and fishing boats, and lifting and securing aquaculture facilities are being implemented.
County Governor Jang Chung-nam emphasized, “We must thoroughly prepare so that pre-entry control and resident evacuation can be carried out swiftly, focusing on areas at risk of human casualties such as riverside walking trails, landslide-prone areas, low-lying coastal areas, campsites, and beaches.”
