Ministry of Agriculture Applies Charges for Construction Without Converting Farmland
Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) has been confirmed to have been reported to the police by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on suspicion of violating the Farmland Act, drawing criticism as a "ridiculous administration" for breaking the law.
According to Muan County on the 7th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs filed a police complaint at the end of last month on suspicion of violating the Farmland Act by carrying out the Sagyocheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project worth 10.9 billion KRW without farmland conversion approval.
The Sagyocheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project has been underway since 2020 with a total budget of 10.9 billion KRW (50% national funds, 50% county funds) to create water purification wetlands, ecological embankments, and ecological spaces along a 2.8 km section of the Sagyocheon riverside, aiming for completion in August this year.
While promoting this construction, Muan County is suspected of violating the Farmland Act by starting construction without obtaining farmland conversion approval to change approximately 20,000 pyeong (66,000㎡) of farmland into miscellaneous land.
A county official stated, "It is just a simple administrative error, and we will actively cooperate with the audit and investigation."
