County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol Orders Evacuation of Lowland Residents and Pre-Inspection of Landslides
Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 7th, chaired by County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol, as Typhoon No. 6 "Khanun," moving northward, is expected to directly affect the Korean Peninsula around the 9th.
At this meeting, Yeongdeok-gun decided to strengthen the management system by conducting frequent pre-inspections of disaster-vulnerable areas within the jurisdiction together with external experts and local residents in preparation for the typhoon and heavy rain, and by designating responsible personnel and safety officers.
In addition, an urgent pre-inspection was carried out on 14 disaster prevention facilities within the jurisdiction, including drainage pump stations, stormwater detention facilities, and highland drainage tunnels, and 23 large water pumps were deployed to flood-prone areas to prevent flood damage.
Going forward, Yeongdeok-gun plans to closely monitor the typhoon’s path and information, operate the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, conduct emergency duty, and maintain a 24-hour work system until the situation is resolved.
At this meeting, Governor Kim Gwang-yeol instructed to prioritize inspections of areas where human casualties are a concern, to pre-inspect low-lying areas and landslide risk zones, and to establish a system to safely evacuate residents.
Additionally, Governor Kim urged thorough measures including ▲ maintaining the water storage rate of Myogok Reservoir below 70% ▲ adjusting the water storage rate of 30-50% in local detention ponds such as Hwajeonji ▲ pre-inspection of civil engineering, river roads, and river facilities ▲ strengthening patrols on rockfall-risk roads and preparing emergency restoration measures ▲ pre-removal of debris from road drainage channels ▲ pre-supply and installation of large sandbags to prepare for coastal lowland wave overtopping ▲ rapid removal of facilities at local beaches ▲ and thorough preparation for rising water levels at Ganggu Port and evacuation of fishing boats.
