August 30, Implementation of Student Direct Election System
Changwon National University announced on the 4th that preparations for the 9th presidential election are progressing smoothly.
According to the university, the originally planned election method by the constituent groups was to hold an indirect election by students, but it was decided to proceed with the current direct election method as is.
This is because the proposal to change the direct election to an indirect one was rejected at the faculty meeting on July 21.
On the 25th of the same month, the president, administrative officers, and constituent groups held a meeting to discuss the election date and other matters, and later agreed on the student direct election method approved at the student general meeting held by the student council.
A university official said, "The 9th presidential election is scheduled to be held on the 30th," adding, "Preparations such as the announcement by the Uichang-gu Election Commission of Changwon City, candidate guidance, preparation of the voter list, joint speeches, and debates are being carried out smoothly according to procedures."
He added, "There were opinions to change the election method, but smooth consultations were achieved through the faculty meeting, discussions, and the student general meeting," and "All university members are doing their best to make the election a festival without any unfair interference from the president or administrative officers such as faculty members."
The Uichang-gu Election Commission in charge of the Changwon National University presidential election will hold a candidate guidance briefing session at the university headquarters on the afternoon of the 7th.
The briefing session will be attended by prospective candidates and members of the Presidential Appointment Recommendation Committee, where procedures for candidate registration, election campaigning, restrictions, and prohibitions will be explained.
Currently, the candidates rumored to run include Professor Ryu Byung-kwan of the Department of Law, Professor Park Kyung-hoon of the Department of Smart Green Engineering, Professor Park Min-won of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Control Engineering, Professor Song Sin-geun of the Department of Accounting, Professor Yoon Hyun-kyu of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and Professor Choi Hee-gyu of the Department of Mechatronics Convergence Engineering.
