Hyundai Group Holds 20th Anniversary Memorial Event for Late Chairman Chung Mong-hun

Memorial Ceremony and Unveiling of the Commemorative Monument

Hyundai Group held a memorial event on the 20th anniversary of the late Chairman Chung Mong-hun on the 4th. On that day, the company visited the ancestral grave in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, in the morning to hold a memorial service. About 70 executives and employees, including Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun and heads of affiliates, attended. A 20th anniversary memorial monument unveiling ceremony was also held.

The inscription on the memorial monument was written by Professor Kim Yong-ok, also known as Dol, who was a close friend of Chairman Chung during his lifetime. The epitaph, beginning with "In memory of the eternal youth Mong-hun," honors the late chairman with the words: "Carrying the cheers of the entire nation on his back, he fulfilled his duties from the sacred father's legacy, growing with a passion like that of a literary boy, to become a professional manager and eventually reach the position of Hyundai Group Chairman."

In the afternoon, the memorial photo exhibition "Chung Mong-hun's Challenge, Hyundai Again" opened simultaneously at the group headquarters building in Yeonji-dong and the Hyundai Elevator Chungju Plant special exhibition hall, continuing for two weeks. Starting with Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun placing the final piece on a large mosaic board depicting Chairman Chung's face made up of his quotes and management keywords, the exhibition features four themes: "Chung Mong-hun, Hyundai's DNA," "Hyundai Spirit, Unstoppable Challenge," "Flow of the Times, Continuing the Hyundai Spirit," and "Hyundai Again." These themes showcase 132 photographs of the late chairman's life, achievements, and future vision. Thirty-four personal items, including notebooks used by Chairman Chung, are also being displayed for the first time.

Although this photo exhibition is an internal event, visitors who wish to pay tribute to Chairman Chung or the general public can view it with guidance. The 20th anniversary memorial video is available on the group’s official website and Hyundai Elevator’s YouTube channel.

Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun stated, "It has been a long and hard time, so much so that it is hard to believe it has been 20 years since he left us. I believe that the late Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-yung and the late Chairman Chung Mong-hun are always watching over and supporting us, so together with our Hyundai family, we will move forward even more vigorously."
