Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is conducting on-site inspections of landslide-prone areas until August 11 due to the recent continuous heavy rains and the development of typhoons, which have created a very high risk of landslides.
The main inspection targets are 247 locations designated as landslide-prone areas within the jurisdiction. Especially focusing on areas where the ground has weakened due to continuous rainfall, the head of the Forest Resources Division, the head of the Forest Protection Team, and the Landslide Site Prevention Team will mobilize all available personnel to thoroughly inspect all vulnerable areas.
The main inspection items include the management status of facilities within vulnerable areas, maintenance and restoration status of slopes and drainage channels, and inspections of areas adjacent to forests where there is a risk of human casualties. The safety of evacuation shelters (such as village halls) in response to the risk of landslides will also be checked.
In particular, the county plans to promptly take corrective measures for any deficiencies found on-site to thoroughly prepare for future heavy rain situations.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “The ground has become significantly weakened due to the recent heavy rains,” and added, “We will strengthen inspection activities in landslide-prone and other high-risk areas to do our best to prevent any loss of life or property damage.”
