Kakao will pilot revenue models such as subscriptions and advertisements in Open Chat during the second half of this year.
On the 3rd, Hong Eun-taek, CEO of Kakao, stated during the Q2 earnings conference call, "We plan to apply a model that shares subscriptions or advertisement models as incentives to Open Chat room hosts."
They also plan to launch a service that recommends Open Chat rooms based on users' interests. Kakao separated the Open Chat feature, which was previously displayed together in the chat tab, into a third tab in Q2. This tab is visited by more than 10 million users daily.
The Friends tab functionality will also be enhanced. CEO Hong explained, "We will strengthen social interaction features by introducing the 'Pung' function, which shares content only with people who want daily content and disappears after 24 hours."
As of Q2, the daily active users (DAU) of the Friends tab exceeded 30 million, a 36% increase compared to the end of last year. Through various upgrades, they plan to secure 40 million DAU by the end of the year.
