Emergency Inspection of High-Risk Buried Cultural Heritage Sites by the Cultural Heritage Administration

Removing Risk Factors Caused by Ground Weakening Due to Last Monsoon

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 3rd that it will inspect high-risk buried heritage excavation sites with concerns of safety accidents such as soil collapse until the 11th. Risk factors caused by weakened ground due to the recent monsoon will be removed in advance. An official explained, "This is a measure to prevent casualties and protect relics," adding, "Excavation system personnel and regional managers will directly visit the sites to conduct inspections."

The key inspection items include ▲ the on-site location of safety and health supervisors during high-risk processes such as excavator use ▲ compliance with distance and height regulations when piling soil ▲ operation status of rest facilities and break times for workers to prevent heat-related illnesses in preparation for heatwaves ▲ implementation of excavation permit conditions and compliance matters such as safety and health management logs and worker safety education. Any deficiencies will be immediately addressed on site.


The targets include a total of thirty-three sites. These are ▲ relics within the residential complex construction site in Taejang-dong, Wonju ▲ relics within the new construction site for neighborhood living facilities in Geumsan-ri, Chuncheon ▲ relics within the maintenance project site of the presumed Chuiamsa Temple site in Hyemoksan, Yeoju ▲ Goryeo Baekja kiln site in Seori, Yongin ▲ relics within the horse racing park development site in Yeongcheon ▲ relics within the Ok Song Sangnok neighborhood park development site in Andong ▲ relics within the Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeongseong maintenance project site in Ulsan ▲ relics within the advanced agricultural complex development site in Muan ▲ relics within the dolmen garden development site in Hwasun ▲ relics within the southeast fortress wall of Taean Eupseong ▲ relics within the Iseongsanseong maintenance project site in Okcheon, among others.
