Advance Reservation 70% Flip... 67% of 2030 Users
Samsung Electronics' foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 5 are creating a sensation by outperforming their predecessors from the early stages of pre-orders. It is expected to surpass 1 million pre-orders for the first time in the foldable series history.
On the 3rd, the three mobile carriers commonly announced that the Fold and Flip 5 have recorded higher pre-order numbers compared to their predecessors.

Samsung Electronics and the three carriers are conducting pre-orders for the Fold and Flip 5 from the 1st to the 7th of this month. Customers who pre-order can activate their devices starting from the 8th, earlier than the official release date on the 11th.
The previous models, Fold and Flip 4, sold 970,000 units during the pre-order period. If this trend continues, it is expected that the Galaxy foldable series will set a new record by surpassing 1 million pre-orders for the first time. The highest pre-order sales record for the Galaxy series to date is 1.09 million units sold for the S23.
The Flip 5 stands out in popularity during the pre-orders. It features a cover screen about twice as large as its predecessor. It has improved not only in design completeness but also in usability. Users can watch YouTube, reply to text messages, or check maps on the cover screen without unfolding the phone. About 70% of all pre-orders from KT and LG Uplus customers chose the Flip 5. On Samsung.com’s live broadcast, 70% of total sales were also Flip 5. SK Telecom reported that 69% of their customers pre-ordered the Flip 5.
The popularity among the 20s and 30s age group is also notable. SKT explained, "Thanks to promotions targeting young people, 67% of Flip 5 pre-orders are from customers in their 20s and 30s, and the Fold 5 also has a 57% share among this age group." At the time of the previous release, SKT reported that 37% of Flip 4 pre-orders were from women in their 20s and 30s, while 52% of Fold 4 purchases were from men in their 30s and 40s.
Looking at color preferences, the representative colors of each model proved popular. According to KT’s pre-order results, the Flip 5 was most popular in Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, in that order. The Fold 5 was preferred in Ice Blue, Black, and Cream. A KT official said, "For both models, the marketing colors Mint and Ice Blue were the most popular and showed common preference across all age groups."
LG Uplus pre-order customers preferred Cream and Mint for the Flip, and Ice Blue and Cream for the Fold. Samsung.com’s live broadcast also showed high popularity for Mint in the Flip 5 and Ice Blue in the Fold 5. There were also many purchases of Samsung.com exclusive colors such as Yellow and Green for the Flip 5, and Blue for the Fold 5. Samsung.com is selling four exclusive colors for the Flip 5 and two for the Fold 5.
Meanwhile, sales of manufacturer unlocked phones are also thriving. Samsung Electronics announced that during a live broadcast held for 1 hour and 40 minutes starting at midnight on the 1st, it achieved nearly double the previous record, setting the highest sales ever.
