Suwon City Provides 50,000 KRW for Cooling and Heating Costs to 26,870 Vulnerable Households

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will provide 50,000 KRW for cooling expenses to all basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty households.

On the 3rd, Suwon City announced that it will pay 50,000 KRW for cooling expenses for July and August to 26,870 vulnerable households, including 21,970 households receiving national basic livelihood security benefits and 4,900 near-poverty households, within this month.

The cooling expense support fund from Gyeonggi Province for national basic livelihood security recipients and Suwon City's Saebit Cooling Expense will be paid in early August. For prompt support, those with general welfare benefit accounts will receive the payment without a separate application. However, households using seizure-protected accounts or not receiving welfare benefits must apply at their local administrative welfare center.

A Suwon City official stated, "We hope that the Saebit Cooling Expense support will help vulnerable groups facing economic difficulties to prevent heatwave damage."

Meanwhile, separately from the 'Saebit Cooling Expense' support, the government's energy voucher program has expanded its target from livelihood and medical benefit recipients to include housing and education benefit recipients. The summer support amount has also been increased from an average of 40,000 KRW per household to 43,000 KRW. Applications can be made through the 'Bokjiro' website or by visiting the local administrative welfare center.
