Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun Conducts On-Site Inspection for Heatwave Preparedness at Mulmangol and Songjeong Beach

Visit to Mulmangol, Yeonje-gu and Songjeong Beach, Haeundae-gu at 2:50 PM on the 3rd

Inspection of heatwave vulnerable groups measures and tourist capacity readiness amid surge in beachgoers

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, will visit Mulmangol area in Yeonje-gu and Songjeong Beach in Haeundae-gu sequentially at 2:50 PM to directly inspect the heatwave response sites.

This visit was arranged to thoroughly check the heatwave measures for vulnerable groups and the tourism accommodation readiness at beaches, where visitors have surged due to the heatwave, as the city continues to experience sweltering temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius with a heatwave advisory in effect for 14 consecutive days.

In particular, this reflects Mayor Park Hyung-jun’s strong determination to showcase Busan’s flawless efforts in implementing vulnerable group heatwave measures and establishing tourism accommodation readiness despite the heatwave, thereby promoting the status of “Busan, a Global Hub City” to the world.

First, Mayor Park will meet with vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone in the Mulmangol area of Yeonje-gu to directly verify whether the city’s heatwave measures are being properly implemented and listen to their difficulties.

Since May, the city has been implementing a comprehensive heatwave plan consisting of 22 tasks across 4 major sectors with the goal of “Building a Heatwave-Safe Busan.”

In particular, the city operates a joint heatwave situation room with related organizations to minimize blind spots in heatwave damage, and conducts intensive monitoring of vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, severely disabled persons, and residents of small-room villages through emergency safety services and life support workers.

Additionally, the city has supported a total of 1.5 billion KRW from the disaster management fund and special grants for heatwave preparedness, including expanding heatwave mitigation facilities such as shade shelters and cooling fogs, and providing heatwave-related preventive supplies.

Mayor Park will also personally encourage care workers who are working on-site in Mulmangol to support vulnerable groups despite the heatwave.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun of Busan said, “The role of local communities is very important, along with the city’s heatwave measures, in checking on the health and well-being of vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone who are easily isolated during heatwaves.” He added, “Since Mulmangol is a region where the local community is well activated, we will thoroughly inspect to ensure synergy with the city’s heatwave measures.”

He also stated, “If we overcome the heatwave safely through a public-private joint effort with local communities, this exemplary case is expected to spread to other local communities and serve as an opportunity to further activate Busan’s local communities.”

Next, Mayor Park will move to Songjeong Beach in Haeundae-gu to directly inspect the safety management status and tourism accommodation readiness of Songjeong Beach, a representative summer resort of Busan following Haeundae and Gwangalli Beaches.

Along with this, he will personally encourage lifeguards (fire department), police, and other beach workers who are working day and night at the sea volunteer office of Songjeong Beach for citizen safety.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun of Busan said, “As the heatwave continues, many domestic and international tourists are visiting Busan’s beaches for summer vacations.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to establish summer tourism accommodation readiness so that ‘Prepared City Busan’ and ‘Busan, Candidate City for Expo 2030’ can be presented to domestic and international tourists even during the heatwave.”

He also requested, “We ask all tourists to actively cooperate with the rescue and safety guidance of on-site safety management personnel for a safe vacation, and to strictly follow water safety rules such as no swimming outside designated areas, refraining from entering the water during bad weather, no swimming under the influence of alcohol, and wearing life jackets.”
