[One Day Walk] From Manhae Han Yongun Literature Museum to General Kim Jwa-jin's Birthplace... Naepo Historical Figures Trail

Introducing walking courses designated as National Forest Trails for their high ecological, historical, and cultural value. National Forest Trails include Jirisan Dullegil, Baekdudaegan Trail, Daegwallyeong Forest Trail, Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, and Hallasan Dullegil.

The course introduced this time is Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, Naepo Historical Figures Trail Course 4. The distance is 13.1 km.

Hongseong is a region where many historical figures were born. Starting from Gyeolseong Dongheon, you walk and then climb Cheongryongsan. Gyeolseong Dongheon is a government office building from the Joseon Dynasty, built in 1400. It was where the Gyeolseong magistrate handled official duties, and there is a study room where the magistrate’s children stayed while books and documents were stored. The Dongheon was originally located in Bunwuteo, Geumgok-ri, Gyeolseong-myeon at the end of the Goryeo period, but when the town was relocated in 1400, it was situated at the top of the town’s mountain fortress. It has been rebuilt several times since it was reconstructed at its current location in 1665.

Cheongryongsan is a low, gentle mountain, but thanks to its wonderful views overlooking the West Sea and its comfortable ridge trail, you can fully appreciate its charm. After descending Cheongryongsan, you pass by the birthplace of Manhae Han Yong-un and the Manhae Literature Museum. The Manhae Han Yong-un Birthplace is located in Gyeolseong-myeon, Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, and is the birthplace of Manhae Han Yong-un, a poet and independence activist during the Japanese colonial period. It is Chungcheongnam-do Monument No. 75, situated on the sunny side facing a low hill. The original house had collapsed but was restored in 1992.

Walking along short forest paths, long village roads, and riverside trails, you arrive at the birthplace and memorial hall of General Kim Jwa-jin. The General Kim Jwa-jin Birthplace has been sanctified since 1991, with the main house, gatehouse, and sarangchae (men’s quarters) restored, and a caretaker’s house and exhibition hall built. Every October, the Baekya General Kim Jwa-jin Memorial Ceremony and the Cheongsanri Battle Victory Festival are held here.

This course includes mountain sections and two-lane roads, so caution for safety is required.
