A high-rise building in Moscow was once again subjected to a surprise drone attack within two days. It is presumed to be a retaliatory attack by Ukraine in response to Russia's recent indiscriminate airstrikes on major Ukrainian cities.
On the 1st (local time), the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that a high-rise building in Moscow was damaged on one floor due to a drone attack. According to major foreign media, the attacked building is known as the ‘IQ Quarter,’ housing government ministries such as the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Digital Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
This building is located in 'Moscow-City,' a large economic zone densely packed with corporate offices and commercial establishments. The building was also targeted by a drone attack on the 30th of last month.
Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, stated in a message posted on his Telegram channel, “Several drones flying toward Moscow were shot down by air defense systems, but one drone flew to the high-rise building that was attacked on the 30th of last month.” He added, “The entire front of the 21st floor of one building was damaged, and windows covering an area of 150㎡ were broken.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense also confirmed the attack in a statement. The ministry said, “Ukraine attempted to attack Moscow and its facilities with three drones. Two were shot down by air defense systems in the western outskirts of Moscow, and the other was intercepted by electronic warfare equipment and crashed in Moscow-City.”
Local disaster authorities reported no casualties. However, foreign media reported that although there were no casualties or significant damage from this incident, it caused widespread unease within Moscow.
