'Repercussions of Inconsiderate Parking Vary by Vehicle Type... "Tried It with a Compact Car and Got Grabbed by the Hair"'

Morning car owner: "Ignored for driving a compact car and having a small stature"
Audi car owner: "Sent a letter of apology via text"

As posts certifying 'retaliatory parking' against nuisance parked vehicles frequently circulate online, reactions and outcomes vary significantly depending on the car model used for the retaliatory parking, drawing attention.

On the 30th of last month, an online community called Bobae Dream featured a post titled "A Lesson on Parking in Two Spaces." The author, Mr. A, retaliated against a black K5 that had parked encroaching on two parking lines by parking his own Audi very close to the driver's side of the K5.

It even appeared that the front wheels were turned toward the K5, making it difficult for the car to get out easily.

Mr. A said, "There was no phone number on the other car. I planned not to use my car for a few days, so I left it there and went home. Around 8:30 PM on the 29th, I received a call from an unknown number but didn’t answer. When I checked the parking lot camera, I saw the car couldn’t get out and was left there," adding, "Since this morning, I kept getting calls but didn’t answer. Then I received a text message with an apology, so I went and moved my car." He shared the text message he received from the K5 owner.

The K5 owner messaged, "Boss, I had to step out briefly yesterday and thought I would move the car right away, so I parked it carelessly and went up. But now I’m in a situation where I can’t get the car out. I’m really sorry for not parking properly," he apologized to the Audi owner.

On the other hand, according to Yonhap News on the 1st, Mr. B, a Morning owner living in Asan, shared a story about how he parked his car very close beside a BMW that was parked diagonally over the line in a shared parking lot in May, which led to a dispute where he was grabbed by the hair and verbally abused.

At the time, Mr. B argued with the BMW owner over the phone. The two met in front of a local police station precinct nearby. As soon as the BMW owner saw Mr. B, he grabbed his hair and dragged him inside the police station. Mr. B had to endure verbal abuse for a while even in front of the police officers.

The BMW owner sent a text message mocking Mr. B with informal language while telling him the meeting place, and after meeting, said nothing, which angered Mr. B.

Mr. B said, "I used to drive an imported car until last year, but it seems there is a culture of disrespect toward compact cars in our country," adding, "Since the Morning is a compact car and I have a small build, I felt I was being looked down upon."
