"Hong Kong Journalist Pu Xiaoten Disappears" Japanese Report
Qin Gang Removed from Position Last Month After a Month of Disappearance
After disappearing for a month, former Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who was dismissed from his position, has been reported to have an unclear whereabouts of the Hong Kong journalist who was rumored to be involved in an affair with him.
On the 31st, Japanese online media NewsLens reported, "Fu Xiaotian, an anchor at Hong Kong Phoenix Satellite TV who was embroiled in an affair rumor with former Foreign Minister Qin Gang, has disappeared." The report thoroughly investigated Fu Xiaotian's background and her connection with Qin Gang.
Born in Chongqing, China, Fu Xiaotian graduated from Peking University and earned a master's degree from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 2007. She began her journalism career in 2009 as a correspondent for Phoenix TV's London bureau and worked as a political reporter at the Hong Kong headquarters in 2012. From 2014, Fu hosted Phoenix TV's flagship program "Talk with World Leaders," interviewing leaders from around the world until last year.
According to the media, the exact time when Qin Gang and Fu Xiaotian first met is unclear. However, Qin Gang was appointed ambassador to the United States in July 2021, and in March of the following year, he conducted an interview with Fu Xiaotian in Washington. If the affair rumors are true, their relationship is presumed to have started around this time.
Eight months after the interview, in November last year, Fu Xiaotian gave birth to a child. Qin Gang was appointed Foreign Minister in December last year and was elected State Councilor at the National People's Congress in March this year. On Qin Gang's birthday (March 19), Fu posted a photo of her son on the Chinese social networking service Weibo, writing, "Dad is busy going to work. We don't even have time to spend his birthday together. We can only celebrate dad's birthday from afar." The father's identity was not revealed, leading to speculation that Qin Gang might be the child's biological father.
Earlier, the American daily New York Post introduced an account presumed to be Fu Xiaotian's unofficial Instagram. The account featured photos taken on February 24 last year at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, showing Fu Xiaotian and Qin Gang greeting guests at a party side by side, along with the phrase "A historic day for us."
The last time Fu Xiaotian showed any updates was on April 11. On Fu Xiaotian's official Twitter, there were screenshots of the interview with Qin Gang and a selfie holding her son on a plane. She wrote, "The last time I took this plane alone was when I went on a business trip from Los Angeles (LA) to Washington. That was the last work for 'Talk with the World Leader.' This time, the plane also departs from LA, but with my precious son Elkin."
Meanwhile, after Qin Gang disappeared from the Chinese diplomatic scene for a month since June 25, various speculations arose, including rumors of an affair, COVID-19 infection, espionage, and detention. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs only explained it as "due to health reasons." Ultimately, Qin Gang was dismissed from his position on the 25th of last month, and his position was filled by Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party Central Political Bureau.
