Dongdaemun-gu, Intensive Identification and Support for Crisis Households in Welfare Blind Spots

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is taking various measures to support vulnerable households in crisis, including operating a ‘Summer Welfare Blind Spot Intensive Discovery and Support Period.’

In the first half of this year, the district identified 6,292 households through the welfare blind spot discovery system and public-private cooperation, and connected and supported 632 cases of public services and 2,159 cases of private services.

During the current summer welfare blind spot intensive discovery and support period (7.17.~9.8.), active investigations are being conducted targeting 1,598 households identified as crisis-signaled subjects by the welfare blind spot discovery system and those vulnerable to heatwaves in summer.

To discover vulnerable groups who may suffer from the summer heat and provide various support, not only welfare planners at each community service center but also community leaders, Hope Welfare Committee members, honorary social welfare officers, and Our Neighborhood Care Teams are actively working.

Additionally, the district has been operating the ‘Neighborhood Knock Campaign Team’ since April, conducting campaigns to find neighbors in crisis together.

Discovered crisis households receive consultations with welfare planners at each community service center to find services tailored to individual welfare needs. Public services such as the Basic Livelihood Security Program and emergency welfare are connected, or private resources are utilized to provide customized services that help quickly overcome crisis situations. Households facing various crisis situations and complex problems receive systematic and integrated support through integrated case management.

To continuously discover vulnerable and crisis households, the district signed a business agreement in March with Dongdaemun Police Station, Dongdaemun Fire Station, and Korea Electric Power Corporation Dongdaemun-Jungnang Branch.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will do our best to continuously discover crisis households and alleviate the difficulties of residents in welfare blind spots.”

On the 27th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited Dongdaemun-gu to inspect the site of crisis household discovery in welfare blind spots and listen to difficulties encountered during the investigation.
