TIE Launches Commercial Urban Drone Delivery Service

'ZEROLAP Tancheon 2023' Launches from August 1
Pilot Project for Drone Delivery Service

This is Engineering (hereinafter TIE, CEO Hong Yujeong) announced that it will launch the urban paid drone delivery service 'Shift Zero Lab' starting August 1. This drone delivery service, conducted in collaboration with Seongnam City, which was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public project '2023 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project,' targets two water play areas within Tancheon in Bundang-gu. From September, the service will be expanded to Tancheon Lawn Park and camping sites near Cheongpodae in Taean-gun.

TIE Launches Commercial Urban Drone Delivery Service

Since the drone delivery service operates under a paid model where users pay a fee, it is expected to present a new standard guide for the full-scale commercialization of drone delivery services. TIE applied core flight control technology capable of precise and safe flight even under strong winds and various sudden changes to successfully complete this urban drone delivery commercialization demonstration project. Additionally, the drone delivery routes were thoroughly inspected to reflect the most optimized safe routes and autonomous flight maneuvering ranges. Autonomous driving technology was also applied. When the drone passes over bridges, the installed sensors detect traffic conditions and are designed to fly through spaces without vehicles.

To use the drone delivery service, customers can access the Zero Lab website and order necessary goods or food. Items weighing up to 3 kg are loaded at the drone delivery base and autonomously flown along a designated safe flight path, allowing customers to receive their orders at the specified delivery point within 5 minutes.

Hong Yujeong, CEO of TIE, said, "This project is the first paid drone delivery service conducted in Korea, and we have devoted meticulous preparation and effort to the overall operation so that people can experience the upcoming era of drone delivery commercialization in advance." He added, "Besides this demonstration project, TIE is expanding partnerships to introduce drone delivery in logistics, retail, and F&B sectors."
