LG Display Achieves 2.35 Million Tons Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions Last Year... Reaches 80% Recycling Rate

LG Display announced on the 31st that it reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 2.35 million tons last year and increased its recycling rate to about 80%, the highest level in the industry.


LG Display also announced the publication of the "2023 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Report," which expands and revises the existing sustainability management report. It includes ESG management activity performance, goals, and achievement strategies.


In the environmental sector, the company revealed plans to pursue carbon neutrality by 2050. It established a roadmap to reduce carbon emissions by 53% by 2030 and 67% by 2040 compared to 2018 levels, to be implemented step by step.


They introduced reduction facilities capable of cutting greenhouse gases by more than 90%. The company increased the transition to renewable energy and improved energy efficiency. Through the installation of a wastewater reuse system, the reuse water usage rate reached 174%.


LG Display strengthened its eco-friendly product development capabilities. It sought ways to reduce environmental issues and minimize the use of hazardous substances throughout the entire production process. The design was changed and materials were unified to facilitate recycling when disposing of products. The recycling rate after disposal of finished display products was raised to about 80%. Environmentally regulated substances such as eco-friendly adhesives were replaced with eco-friendly materials to minimize the emission of hazardous substances.

In the social sector, the company provided an "ESG Supply Chain Code of Conduct" to companies within its supply chain. The Paju plant obtained the VAP Platinum grade, which signifies the highest level of supply chain management from the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA). It operated win-win cooperation programs such as financial support for partner companies, technical cooperation, and medical welfare support. LG Display earned the highest grade in the Shared Growth Index for eight consecutive years.


In the governance sector, LG Display newly introduced a corporate governance charter and board guidelines.


LG Display established a new ESG slogan, "True Display for a Sustainable Future." The ESG report is published simultaneously in Korean and English. It can be viewed and downloaded from the LG Display website.
