Strengthening the 'Overseas Nuclear Power Export Support System' Including the Establishment of an Egyptian Commercial Office

First Training for New Commercial Attaches on Nuclear Power Plant Export Sales
Expansion of Key Missions for Nuclear Export and Additional Assignment of Dedicated Officers Planned

The government has decided to strengthen the overseas nuclear power export support system to back the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's third nuclear power export achievement, following the successful bids for the Egypt El-Dabaa project and the export of nuclear power plant equipment to Romania.

On the 31st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that a commercial attach? position will be newly established in Egypt to support the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant construction project.

Additionally, a total of 11 commercial attach?s will be sequentially dispatched starting in August to overseas diplomatic missions related to nuclear power exports in Egypt, India, the Netherlands, and other countries.

The capabilities of the newly appointed commercial attach?s to support nuclear power exports will also be enhanced. To this end, the Ministry held its first-ever nuclear power export workshop for the new commercial attach?s on the 31st. Through this workshop, the attach?s will acquire specialized knowledge necessary for nuclear power sales, ranging from basic knowledge such as nuclear power principles and export reactor types to nuclear non-proliferation, export controls, successful cases of overseas nuclear power project contracts, and nuclear power export support systems.

Going forward, the Ministry plans to consult with related ministries to incorporate specialized nuclear power export training as a mandatory course for new resident officers, expand the number of key diplomatic missions (8) and key trade offices (10) focused on nuclear power exports, and additionally assign dedicated nuclear power export officers (commercial attach?s) at overseas missions, thereby continuously strengthening nuclear power export support capabilities.

On the same day, Kang Kyung-sung, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, conveyed the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s national philosophy, including the abolition of the nuclear phase-out policy and a strong commitment to nuclear power exports, to the new commercial attach?s. Emphasizing their role in achieving the export of 10 nuclear reactors by 2030 and 5 trillion won worth of nuclear power plant equipment exports by 2027, he urged, "As the vanguard positioned at the forefront of nuclear power exports and as local sales representatives, the new commercial attach?s must give their all."
