Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will expand opportunities for residents to enjoy culture and arts by presenting new curated exhibitions and cultural arts programs at the ‘Cultural Experiment Space Hosu’ located at the West Lake of Seokchon Lake.
‘Cultural Experiment Space Hosu’ is an urban cultural space where visitors can appreciate works by emerging young artists along with beautiful scenery and experience various programs.
The local artists’ curated exhibition Art Lab Hosu held here gathers works by emerging artists residing and active in Songpa-gu. The exhibition is divided into two parts with five artists each: Part 1 runs from July 11 to August 6, and Part 2 from August 8 to September 3. As suggested by the theme of an art laboratory, visitors can experience the artists’ experimental and original artistic worlds that captivate the eye.
By participating in the exhibition-linked programs, visitors can also create memorable souvenirs. Adult programs include ‘Making My Own Dessert Painting Pouch’ with artist Lim Iji, and children’s programs include ‘Making a Sun Catcher Resembling Yunsul’ with artist Cheon Seoyoung. Participation requires prior reservation through the Seoul Public Reservation Service website.
The cultural and artistic education program Talent Discovery Lab has also opened distinctive customized courses by generation for summer. Classes for children and youth on vacation have been expanded, including children’s gayageum, Korean traditional children’s songs, and children’s cooking classes. There are also abundant summer craft classes for adults, such as making rattan baskets, making it easy for people of all ages to participate.
For more details such as the education schedule, please check the official blog of Cultural Experiment Space Hosu. Participation fees are free except for material costs. Reservations can be made online through the Seoul Public Reservation Service website.
Additionally, in September, the Living Arts Revitalization Support Project Songnebangne is scheduled to be operated. It is planned to introduce visual art clubs active in the local community and support them to fully demonstrate their capabilities without restrictions on activity spaces. A district official stated, “We plan to engage widely from exhibitions of works to exhibition-linked programs where artists and viewers interact.”
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We prepared this hoping to open a lively communication platform for young artists and residents who form the discourse of local culture and arts.” He added, “We will create a Songpa where culture and arts breathe by establishing a self-sustaining foundation for local arts so that all residents can enjoy a rich cultural life.”
