First International Award Winner at Seoul City Light Festival
The Seoul Design Foundation announced on the 31st that 'Seoul Light DDP' received the main award in the Brand & Communication Design category at the 'Red Dot Design Award 2023.'
Seoul Light DDP is a 222m ultra-large media facade exhibition on the irregular exterior wall of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), presented every winter since 2019. The media facade is a technology that creates visual effects using LED lights, projectors, etc., on building exteriors.
Collaborating with notable artists such as Refik Anadol, famous for projection mapping media art at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles (LA), USA, and Professor Park Je-sung from Seoul National University College of Fine Arts, it has established itself as Seoul's representative light festival, attracting over one million visitors annually.
The foundation will present the 'Seoul Light DDP 2023 Autumn' exhibition for the first time from August 31 to September 10.
World-renowned media artist Miguel Chevalier and Kia Global Design Center will each unveil digital nature artworks under the theme 'Digital Nature,' realized through digital technology.
The main exhibition held in winter plans to reveal various side events, including a New Year's countdown.
Lee Kyung-don, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, said, "This award is not only a recognition of the excellence of the work but also an international acknowledgment that DDP, Seoul's representative landmark, is the optimal canvas for future-oriented media art. We will continue to create innovative and sophisticated design content."
