Cheongun Literature Library, Areumkkum Library, Children and Youth National Studies Library, etc. operate special summer vacation programs for children
Well-planned programs ranging from author meetings that build family bonds to reading camps and traditional play experiences
Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Munheon) presents a variety of special lecture programs at Jongno-gu public libraries for children and their families to enjoy together during the summer vacation.
The programs are designed to highlight the characteristics of each library, offering reading camps, author meetings, and traditional play experiences to help children enjoy reading and foster bonds between parents and children.
First, Cheongun Literature Library will hold the "Reading Camp with Dad: Spending Summer at the Library." The event invites author couple Jeon Seung-bae and Kang In-suk, authors of "Battery Dad," to give special lectures on the theme of family love and its importance. Participants will also enjoy traditional and ecological games, learning attitudes to live in harmony with nature.
At Areumkkum Library, the program "Strong Thinking! Growing Creativity! Book Exploration" will be held. Children will learn about the characteristics of sea animals and compile their learning into a lapbook, creating their own personalized information book. There will also be various book-related games where children can express their thoughts physically.
Next, the Children and Youth National Studies Library, in collaboration with Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Classical Chinese Literature, will operate a "Literacy Improvement Class" for upper elementary students. This meaningful class will teach the values embedded in our native language and writing developed in the Chinese character cultural sphere.
Woorisori Library will host the event "Beom, Let's Play a Game," where children aged 7 to lower elementary grades and their parents can experience various traditional cultures including mask play and storytelling. This special time is designed to fully enjoy a cultural day through reading and Korean traditional music.
At the Wisdom Making Small Library, a program titled "Transitioning Our Child from Picture Books to Text Books" will be conducted for children and caregivers. Led by Park Jin-woo, author of the children’s fantasy novel "Aurora and the Mysterious Bookstore" and an elementary school teacher, this reading education lecture is highly anticipated. It aims to spark interest in text-heavy books for children who usually prefer learning comics, providing a natural opportunity to become familiar with books.
The Dreaming Pyeongchang-dong Small Library will hold a history class for elementary students called "Korean History Outing." Students will read the Dangun myth of Gojoseon and founding myths, share their thoughts, and deeply consider what history is and how they can shape their own history.
At Tongin Children’s Small Library, students from the English club of Sangmyung Affiliated Girls’ Middle School will run the "English Book Buddy" program. Children and middle school students will be paired 1:1 to read English books selected and researched by the students, create customized activity sheets, and engage in post-reading activities.

Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “I recommend that children, who are usually accustomed to video-centered content through mobile phones or YouTube, participate in this summer vacation program to fully enjoy the pleasure of reading books and strengthen their bonds with their parents.”
