X, 540 Million Active Users in June
Seuredeu, Daily Active Users Plunge 70%
Elon Musk appears to have clearly outpaced Mark Zuckerberg.
The number of users on X (formerly Twitter), where Elon Musk is a major shareholder, has increased, while the number of users on Threads, owned by Facebook parent company Meta, has decreased.
On the 28th (local time), Musk posted on his X account, "Monthly active users in 2023 have set a new record," and shared a graph showing that X's monthly active users exceeded 540 million in June.
Compared to May of last year, before Musk's acquisition, when Twitter had 229 million users, the number of users has more than doubled in just over a year.
However, June, when X recorded its highest figure, was before Threads was launched.
Threads, launched on the 5th as a "Twitter rival," is experiencing a decline in users.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, told employees on the 27th that after surpassing 100 million subscribers, the number of users dropped to less than half. He did not disclose the exact number of users.
Nevertheless, he said, "This kind of user decline is 'normal,'" and expressed hope that "the situation will improve as Threads adds more features going forward."
Previously, Threads enjoyed an unprecedented opening surge in internet history, surpassing 100 million users within five days of its launch on the 6th. In South Korea, it was downloaded by over one million users during the same period.
However, the opening surge was short-lived. Consumers steadily decreased on the SNS, which lacked distinctive features and functions.
According to data from mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, on the 21st, Threads' global daily active users (DAU) dropped to 13 million, a 70.45% decrease in just two weeks.
Threads' DAU has continuously declined since reaching its peak of 44 million on the 7th, shortly after launch. The average daily time users spent on the Threads app also fell by 79%, from a peak of 19 minutes to just 4 minutes.
In contrast, Twitter has not suffered a significant hit in user numbers even after Threads' launch. Sensor Tower analyzed that Twitter's DAU remains at 200 million, with an average daily usage time of 30 minutes, maintaining previous levels.
