Policy Debate Format YouTube Channel
First Broadcast on the 29th... Already 3,000 Subscribers
Cheon Haram and Lee Gi-in Together Say "Issues Directly Connected to Life"
"We are going in a different direction from so-called conservative YouTubers who only deal with current issues. We plan to cover topics that are not sensational. That's why we decided not to accept any 'Super Chat' donations at all."
Lee Jun-seok, former leader of the People Power Party, is launching a YouTube broadcast called 'Yeouido Reconstruction Association,' which emphasizes policy discussions. This broadcast is created with the concept of a reconstruction association, aiming to achieve the reconstruction of Yeouido politics. As of the 28th, a teaser video has been uploaded, and the number of subscribers has already exceeded 3,000.
In a phone interview with Asia Economy on the same day, the former leader explained the purpose of the broadcast, saying, "If the conservative camp only talks about cartel stories or spy stories, it cannot fully capture the discourses that the younger generation and politically disengaged groups want to embrace. We feel the need to cover topics that are directly related to life but are not addressed at all within the party, from our own perspective."

Cheon Ha-ram, chairman of the People Power Party's Suncheon Gap district committee, and Lee Gi-in, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, will also appear on the broadcast. Reflecting the reconstruction association concept, Lee Jun-seok will serve as the association head, while Chairman Cheon and Assemblyman Lee will take on the roles of site manager and chief supervisor, respectively.
Chairman Cheon expressed strong determination, saying, "We are committed to creating a new 'hit song' instead of outdated color politics and tiresome conspiracy theories," and added, "We want to show hope for conservatism and the future of Korean politics to those who support conservatism but are disappointed with reality."
Assemblyman Lee also emphasized, "The topics we will cover will be the worries and pains experienced by the younger generation," and stressed, "We want to prove that it is possible to achieve tens or hundreds of millions of views by deeply addressing various social issues faced by ordinary citizens without resorting to extreme tendencies or harsh language."
The first episode is scheduled to be released as early as the 29th. The topic will be about the domestic opening of 'North Korean broadcasts.' Former leader Lee raised the issue that "if only the government broadcasts North Korean information, it can selectively present it according to the government's preferences," advocating for full disclosure. Chairman Cheon pointed out, "Depending on the broadcast content, there is a possibility that forces sympathetic to North Korea may emerge."
The second episode will address problems occurring in the education field, where student rights ordinances and teacher authority are currently in conflict, and discuss solutions.
Former leader Lee has been criticized for having excellent 'political sense' but lacking policy capabilities. Because of this, there are expectations that the YouTube broadcast will help supplement Lee's weaknesses in policy. Um Kyung-young, director of the Era Spirit Research Institute, said, "It seems like an opportunity to showcase Lee's policy alternatives and vision," adding, "It could also be used within the People Power Party as a means to create space for youth politics."
