Activities of the Special Committee for Deficiency Resolution, including Chairman Kim Kyung-tae

Nowon District Council (Chairman Kim Junsung) announced on the 28th that the "Special Committee for Resolving the Shortage of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Nowon District" (Chairman Kim Kyungtae) held its 4th meeting on the 27th and conducted an on-site visit to parking lots in the district to assess the feasibility of installing electric vehicle charging stations.

The special committee was formed during the February extraordinary session to propose plans for expanding charging infrastructure so that residents using electric vehicles can use them without difficulty amid the severe shortage of charging stations compared to the demand for eco-friendly vehicles in Nowon District. So far, the committee has conducted activities including receiving status reports from relevant departments of Nowon District Office and visiting excellent charging station installation areas in Yangcheon District, Seoul, and Jeju Island.

On that day, the special committee visited four locations in the district with large-scale parking spaces secured, including Suraksan Design Street on-street public parking lot (64 spaces). Seven members participated, including Chairman Kim Kyungtae, Assemblymen Kang Geumhee, Bae Junkyung, Son Myungyoung, Yoo Woongsang, Jung Younggi, and Cho Yundo, along with staff from Nowon District Office’s Carbon Neutral Promotion Team and Traffic Guidance Division.

The assembly members carefully examined on-site the number of possible chargers to be installed according to the number of parking spaces, the possibility of nearby fires and availability of fire extinguishing facilities, and the parking ratio between existing internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles. They discussed the impact on nearby residences and commercial areas, the feasibility of installing slow or fast chargers, and disaster prevention measures in case of fires caused by charger overheating. The committee’s activities will conclude next month.
