Our traditional folk art performances are full of humor and excitement, soothing the hardships of labor through rhythm and dance, comforting one another, cooperating, and overcoming challenges, embodying the deeply rooted resilient spirit of our people.
At the first event on July 28 at Bokcheon Museum, audiences can directly experience high-quality traditional folk art performances such as Gayageum Sanjo, a clear and elegant performance on Korea’s representative traditional string instrument; East Coast Byeolsingut, a ritual praying for the village’s peace and the fishing village’s safety and bountiful catch; and Dongnae Gomu, a dance with seemingly simple yet brilliantly changing movements, all reflecting the charm of our traditional arts.
At the Bokcheon Museum’s special exhibition hall, an exhibition of works by nine holders of the city’s intangible cultural heritage functional categories is being held from July 11 to 30.
A Busan City official stated, “Through this performance held in citizens’ everyday squares and parks, we hope that our excellent traditional arts will come closer to citizens, making it easier for them to access and enjoy.” He added, “Ahead of Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo, we will provide diverse attractions and enjoyable experiences to Busan citizens and the many tourists visiting Busan.”
