A scene showing a police officer undercover in plain clothes arresting a voice phishing suspect on the spot has been released, drawing attention.
The National Police Agency recently posted a video titled "Why the police officer who was drinking coffee went outside" on its official YouTube channel.
According to the video, a female police officer from the Gujeuk Precinct in Yuseong District, Daejeon, changed into plain clothes and went undercover at a cafe to conduct an investigation around 2:20 p.m. on the 13th.

The police had received intelligence that the voice phishing collector was scheduled to meet the victim and receive money, so the officer changed clothes to stake out the meeting place.
Upon arriving at the cafe, the officer ordered from the menu pretending to be a customer and sat in a seat with a good view outside, waiting for the collector.
Soon after, a woman wearing a black hat appeared in front of the cafe, followed by a victim in their 20s carrying a shopping bag containing money. The officer confirmed the collector receiving the money from the victim and recorded the crime scene with a camera she had brought.
Just before the two parted ways, the officer left the cafe and called out to the collector, saying, "Excuse me." When the officer instructed, "Please come here," the woman responded in a flustered voice, "Why?"
The officer then informed her of the Miranda rights, saying, "You are being arrested on the spot for a voice phishing-related crime," and arrested the woman on charges of fraud.
According to the police, the female collector initially continued to deny the crime but admitted to the charges while being transported to the precinct. Additionally, the 19 million won in cash that had been handed over was recovered and returned to the victim.
The police emphasized, "Public institutions such as the prosecution, police, and Financial Supervisory Service never demand cash," and stated, "We will create a Korea safe from voice phishing."
