Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 27th that its consolidated operating profit for the second quarter of this year reached 58.9 billion KRW, turning profitable compared to an operating loss of 255.7 billion KRW in the same period last year.
Sales increased by 36.4% to 1.9457 trillion KRW, and net profit turned positive at 23.2 billion KRW. Samsung Heavy Industries' sales in the second quarter of this year marked the highest performance since the fourth quarter of 2019 (2.1572 trillion KRW). The operating profit margin recorded 3%, more than double the 1.2% operating profit margin in the first quarter, which had turned profitable after 22 consecutive quarters of losses.
A Samsung Heavy Industries representative stated, "The increase in the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and large container ships drove sales growth," adding, "With the rise in sales, the effect of fixed cost reduction is occurring, and the trend of improving operating profit is expected to continue."
