Namwon-si to Increase 'Taxi Base Fare' Starting Next Month

The basic taxi fare in Namwon-si, Jeonbuk, will increase starting next month.

According to the city on the 27th, Jeollabuk-do held a Consumer Policy Committee meeting on the 30th of last month and decided to raise the basic taxi fare from the 1st of next month, taking into account the management difficulties faced by the taxi industry due to rising prices and the need to improve the treatment of transportation workers.

For standard taxis, the basic fare (for 2 km) will increase from 3,300 won to 4,300 won, the distance fare will change from 100 won per 137 meters to 100 won per 134 meters, and the time fare will increase from 100 won per 33 seconds to 100 won per 32 seconds.

The late-night surcharge hours will be from midnight to 4 a.m., with a surcharge rate of 20% on the meter fare. The complex surcharge, applied when the distance is too far or heading to remote areas, will remain the same at up to 40%.

This taxi fare increase is the first in four years since May 2019, when the fare was raised from 2,800 won to 3,300 won.

Therefore, based on daytime rates, taking a taxi from Namwon Station to City Hall, which previously cost about 5,000 won, is expected to increase to about 6,500 won, increasing the fare burden on citizens.

A city official said, “According to the results of the Jeollabuk-do Consumer Policy Committee review, the basic taxi fare will increase from the 1st of next month. As the burden on citizens increases, we will improve the quality of service and strengthen the education of transportation workers so that citizens can use taxis safely and conveniently, helping them understand the fare increase.”
