Jeonnam Wando-gun New Teacher Ratio 70%, Highest in the Region

There has been a suggestion to grant additional points to teachers working in rural and fishing village areas with poor working conditions.

On the 26th, Kim Dae-jung, the former Superintendent of Education of Jeonnam, visited the Wando Office of Education and spent time communicating with parents in Wando and members of the public-private-academic education cooperation committee.

Jeonnam Wando-gun New Teacher Ratio 70%, Highest in the Region The Wando Public-Private-Academic Education Cooperation Committee members who met with former Jeonnam Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung requested the dispatch of experienced teachers to promote the development of education in rural fishing and farming areas.

At this meeting, the Wando public-private-academic education cooperation committee requested Superintendent Kim to dispatch experienced teachers to address regional educational disparities and promote the development of education in rural and fishing village areas.

Jung In-ho, a local committee member, said, “The appointment rate of new teachers in Wando is 70%, which is the highest among the 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam at 97.8%. This is even higher than Sinan County’s 57%, so improvement is needed. We request the dispatch of experienced teachers to resolve regional educational disparities.”

Another committee member stated, “Since only new teachers are assigned to rural and island schools, which are unpopular among teachers, there are many difficulties in school classes and student guidance. If additional points are given to teachers supporting rural areas, the problems will naturally be resolved.”

In response, Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said, “Currently, the personnel regulations for Jeonnam teachers are very strict and structured with a detailed scoring system, so it is difficult to make immediate changes. We are currently exploring various measures to resolve personnel issues.”

He added, “The reality is that many teachers in Jeonnam want to leave the region. We will do our best to improve the poor educational environment and ensure that school classes are conducted without undermining teachers’ authority.”
