On the 27th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will sign a business agreement with location information service companies at the National Aviation Museum to provide the Aviation Satellite Service (KASS) with GPS location errors of 1 to 1.6 meters via the internet, enabling its use in location-based services.
KASS refers to the Korean Satellite Navigation Augmentation System that reduces GPS location errors (from 15?33m to 1?1.6m) and provides precise and highly reliable location information as an international standard.
The signing ceremony will be attended by Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as six companies including T map Mobility, Kakao Mobility, and Naver, which provide location-based mobility platform services using smartphones, along with startups such as Dongsung I-Tech, LBS Tech, and IoT Flex.
Through this business agreement, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to gather various opinions on ways to enhance companies’ data utilization and accessibility when building platforms that provide KASS data based on the internet. Companies plan to discuss mutual cooperation measures for technical advice and information sharing based on their expertise in location information.
Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "Taking this business agreement as an opportunity, the government and the private sector will closely cooperate to ensure that the precise and reliable location information of KASS can be utilized in various location information service industries. Through this, we hope that citizens’ convenience in daily life will increase and new added value for companies will be created."
He added, "Prior to the signing ceremony, starting from July 26, we will provide stable KASS information available for general use, and we will do our best to ensure that the successful launch of aviation services by the end of 2023 proceeds without any setbacks."
